The Wellfleet Clock Company has been in business since 1994 providing craft galleries, gift shops, and clock shops with quality timepieces crafted in my Wellfleet, Massachusetts workshop. Each clock is handmade by me using quality materials: I use furniture grade hardwoods and veneers, glass, environmentally safe water based lacquers, and quality quartz movements.

How To Set Your Tide Clock

Always set your tide clock on the day of a full moon! The tide clock measures the tide cycles of the U.S. Atlantic coast only. The easiest and most accurate method of setting your clock is to check your local newspaper or reliable local tide chart to see when high tide occurs on a day with a full moon. At that time, set the hand of the tide clock to High Tide. You will find the adjustment dial on the rear of the clock movement (the little black box where the battery goes in).

Tide clocks are geared differently than conventional clocks: They measure a "lunar day" which is actually 24 hours and 50 minutes. The hand on a tide clock will fully rotate once every 12 hours and 25 minutes. Tide clock movements are mechanical and the tides are not. Many factors influence the tides such as a full moon, temperature, barometric pressure, etc. A "minimum discrepancy" is obtainable if you wait until the day of a full moon to set your clock. Tide clocks should never be used for marine navigational purposes.
